A film adaptation of Jude Dibia’s critically-acclaimed novel, ‘Walking with Shadows’, has been selected to screen at this year’s Göteborg Film Festival in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The Göteborg Film Festival is a 10-day festival that showcases nearly 450 films from about 80 countries from across the world.
Co-produced by Funmi Iyanda and Olumide Makanjuola, the film is scheduled to screen for four consecutively days from January 29 to February 1, 2020.
The film is directed by Irish writer/director, Aoife O’Kelly and tells the story of a man who turns away from a comfortable life to be true to himself.
According to Iyanda: “The film fully explores many pressing societal issues which sections of the Nigerian society can relate with, but cannot freely address while also promoting the importance of self-discovery and acceptance in a cultural society.”
The film is set in Lagos, where Ebele Njoko (Agu) recreates himself as Adrian – a respected father and brother but his world soon falls apart when his homosexuality is revealed.
‘Walking with Shadows’ stars Ozzy Agu, Zainab Balogun, Ayoola Ayolola, Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, Wale Ojo, Adunni Ade and Funsho Adeolu, among others.
It premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in October 2019 and screened at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), Lagos in November.
