Book lovers interested in buying copies of novels in the popular Macmillan Pacesetters Series can now get them from Ibadan, Oyo State-based Sunshine Bookseller.

The series was a collection of 130 novels written by Nigerian, Ghanaian, Kenyan and South African writers for an African audience.

They were published between 1979 and 1988 and had varied themes including adventure, espionage and romance.

Some of the popular titles include ‘Sisi’ by Yemi Sikuade, ‘Dead of Night’, ‘Mark of the Cobra’, ‘For Mbatha and Rabeka’, ‘Bloodbath at Lobster Close,’ ‘The Cyclist’, ‘The Worshippers’, ‘The Extortionist’ and ‘Evbu My Love’.

Others were ‘Agony in Her Voice’, ‘Angel of Death’, ‘The Black Temple’, ‘Blackmailers’, ‘Director!’, ‘Christmas in the City’, ‘Coup’ and ‘The Delinquent’.

There was also ‘Circle of Betrayal’, ‘The Equatorial Assignment’, ‘Felicia’, ‘For Better For Worse’, ‘Forever Yours’, ‘Frozen Fire’, ‘The Instrument’, ‘Meet Me in Conakry’ and ‘The Money Doublers’. Other titles were ‘Rich Girl, Poor Boy’, ‘State Secret’, ‘Stone of Vengeance’ and ‘Tell Me No More.’

The series was discontinued in the 1990s as a result of the Structural Adjustment Programme that tanked the economy and impacted publishing negatively.

The literati interested in getting copies of the popular series can check them out at Sunshine Booksellers opposite UI Second Gate, Ibadan or order from the store’s website.
