A former president of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Bolaji Rosiji, has died, aged 56.
According to a press statement announcing his demise on Tuesday, the music promoter and philanthropist was said to have passed on on Sunday December 5, 2021, after a brief illness.
“This is to announce the passing into glory, Mr Bolaji Rosiji who died on Sunday 5th December 2021 at 5.30 pm at the Lagoon Hospital Ikoyi after a brief illness.
“Until his death, Rosiji was the Founder of Gaurapad Charities which was founded in 2004, Former PMAN President, Former Director of NDL and a former Secretary-General of the Nigeria Network of NGOs. His tireless efforts to make his companies progress in leaps and bounds, as well as his attitude, guidance and effort, are worthy of applause. He is survived by a son, Narada Alvin and siblings,” the statement read.
A solo artiste and an adherent of the Hare Krishna faith, Rosiji was famous for his single, ‘Heart of Gold’ released in 2010, which was inspired by the Micheal Jackson classic, ‘We are the World’.
Son of the first Chairman of Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) and the late industrialist, Chief Ayo Rosiji, Bolaji’s tenure as PMAN President identified the need to help youngsters become performing musicians and as such, he spearheaded the establishment of PMAN-owned music studios all over the country. He also fought piracy and negative lyrics.
He is survived by a wife and a son.
