The Bagbimo of Ijebu and long-time coordinator of the event, Professor Adetokunboh Fassy, said efforts are underway to secure recognition of the festival by UNESCO.
Speaking at the 2026 Ojude Oba Festival on Friday, he described the annual celebration as a powerful symbol of unity, cultural pride and religious tolerance among the Ijebu people.
He said the festival has since evolved into a wider cultural event embraced by Christians, Muslims and traditional worshippers, reflecting the inclusive identity of the Ijebu community.
He added that the 2026 edition was the first in 66 years to be held without a reigning Awujale, expressing hope that a new monarch would be installed before the next celebration.
