Nigeria’s internationally-acclaimed music star, Bukola Elemide, popularly known as Asa, has released a new single titled ‘Mayana’.

The “Jailer” crooner released the much anticipated song, which is her first single of the year, over the weekend.

The single is plucked from her much anticipated fifth studio album and was birthed after her return to Nigeria from the Incomplete European tour due to the covid pandemic.

Explaining the inspiration behind her latest single, Asa said: “Usually, when I write a song, I would make melodies with bits of words here and there. ‘Mayana’ stuck. I didn’t know what it meant. The usual thing I’d do is look for another word. I knew I wanted it to mean something good to this person I am singing to, like his forever. So, I Googled the word and voila! It means ‘Healer, tomorrow.”

This comes after the release of ‘Lucid’, her fourth studio album, on October 11, 2019.

The less than 3-minute single paints a picture of a female lover eloping with her partner.

A blend of Afropop and soul, ‘Mayana’ was produced by Nigerian musician, P. Priime.
