Barely a week after soliciting financial support for a scheduled kidney transplant in India, Amaechi Muonagor, a Nollywood actor, has reportedly passed away.
The actor, who began his career as a journalist with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in 1989 before making his debut in Nollywood in the early 90s classic ‘Taboo’, was diagnosed with kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke.
The news of the actor’s demise hit the internet on Sunday evening.
About a week ago, a video circulated online showing the 61-year-old actor lying still in bed, pleading for financial aid to support his kidney transplant. Sitting next to the Nollywood legend was a fellow actor, Kingsley Orji, who also pleaded on his behalf.
According to Orji, the kidney disease had caused the ailing actor speech impairment, and they decided to bring him home from the hospital due to pausity of funds.
Orji had earlier revealed that Muonagor had been battling diabetes and stroke, with the latter causing paralysis in his leg.
In a social media post last November, Mounagor’s cousin, Hon Tony Muonagor, posted a picture of him sitting next to the ailling actor on a hospital bed, stating that he wants the public to know the situation with his relative.
His death comes as the latest after the Nollywood industry bid farewell to John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu.
