Lionel Richie has been hospitalised in an intensive care unit in St. Louis, Missouri, after performing at The Muny on Saturday, August 29.
The 77-year-old singer checked himself into a local hospital after the concert to undergo medical tests, according to reports. A source close to his tour told ABC News that Richie sought medical attention as a precaution.
TMZ reported that doctors were investigating possible slight dehydration, although Richie’s representatives have not publicly confirmed a diagnosis. Sources told the outlet that the singer was hoping to be discharged on Tuesday.
Richie appeared to struggle towards the end of his performance and asked his team to bring him a chair while singing his final song, “All Night Long.” He completed the show before going to hospital.
The latest health scare comes after Richie fell ill during a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota, in June. He told the audience he felt dizzy and strange before leaving the stage and was subsequently taken to hospital. He later postponed two shows on doctors’ advice before returning to the tour.
Richie is currently touring with Earth, Wind & Fire on the Sing a Song All Night Long tour. His next scheduled performance is September 26 in San Francisco, according to media reports.
