The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books will kick off from April 20 to 21, 2024, at the University of Southern California. With a lineup boasting over 500 authors and a myriad of booths, the festival promises an exhilarating celebration of literature. Among the esteemed participants, the Taiwan Academy and the Tourism Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles will co-host booth No. 148, offering a captivating glimpse into Taiwanese culture and tourism. Visitors are cordially invited to explore our booth and seize the opportunity to take home special giveaways.

Founded in 1996, the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books has stood as one of the largest literary gatherings in the United States, drawing in crowds of up to 150,000 attendees over a mere two days. This year, the Taiwan Academy is proud to present a carefully curated selection of seven Taiwanese literary works under the theme “Stories of Taiwan,” shining a spotlight on Taiwan’s rich history, cuisine, lifestyle, and indigenous heritage. Highlighted works include “The Boy from the Clearwater,” recipient of the Roman Graphique at the Prix Émile Guimet de Littérature Asiatique; “Made in Taiwan,” a book with special coverage by the Los Angeles Times; “Puppet Flower: A Novel of 1867 Formosa” a full-length historical novel; “The Song of Mountains, Forest, and Sea,” an enchanting compilation of famous Indigenous legends; and the children’s books “Night Market Rescue,” “Papa’s Little Truck,” and “This Is Not My Home.”

The Taiwan Academy is committed to amplifying the reach of Taiwanese literature globally, echoing the objectives outlined in the “Black Wave Cultural Plan” initiated by the Ministry of Culture. For prospective publishers, the Taiwan Academy will provide on-site brochures showcasing a list of Taiwanese literature offerings, including English translations of award-winning works, courtesy of the generous support from Books from Taiwan and the National Museum of Taiwan Literature.

Don’t miss the chance to meet special guest Charlotte Cheng, author of the beloved children’s book “Night Market Rescue,” at booth 148 on April 20, at 2:00 p.m. Additionally, attendees can anticipate exclusive giveaways, including Taiwan’s iconic bag and literary keyrings from the National Museum of Taiwan Literature. Join us in celebrating the rich tapestry of Taiwanese literature and culture at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.
