Global music star Shakira shared an emotional farewell with Uganda’s renowned dance troupe, Ghetto Kids, backstage after her second sold-out performance at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Tuesday.

In a touching moment captured on video, an emotional Shakira embraced the young dancers, assuring them that their bond would not end when they returned home to Uganda.

“You’ll be my friends forever,” she told the children, promising to keep in touch after their trip ended. She also revealed that her sons, Milan and Sasha, had formed a close friendship with the group and would continue communicating with them.

Holding back tears, the Grammy-winning singer hinted that the dancers could reunite with her during her upcoming Madrid residency.

“Maybe I’ll see you in Madrid. Maybe you want to come to Madrid,” she told them, although no official confirmation has been made regarding their participation in the performances.

Sharing the heartfelt encounter on social media, Shakira praised the Ghetto Kids for their infectious joy, love and exceptional talent. She also reflected on the countless children around the world who possess remarkable abilities but are still waiting for an opportunity to showcase their gifts.

The collaboration between Shakira and the Ghetto Kids began when the Ugandan dance sensation was invited to feature in the music video for her song “Dai Dai.” Their partnership has since grown, with the group joining the singer for high-profile appearances, including the FIFA World Cup Final halftime show and her recent performances at Barclays Center.

The emotional farewell has resonated with fans online, many applauding Shakira for nurturing the relationship beyond the stage and for using her global platform to spotlight the talents of young performers from Africa.
