Travel Creator Fascinated By Nigeria’s ‘Pure Water’ Experience Thanks To Authentic Traveling Couples

Travel content creator Travel Tom Tom has delighted social media users after sharing his surprise at discovering Nigeria’s iconic sachet water, popularly known as “pure water,” during a visit to the country.

The experience was made possible by Authentic Travelling couples Chris Joondeph and Adenike Daramola Joondeph, popular travel content creators known for showcasing Nigeria’s culture, food, traditions, and hidden tourism gems. The platform is run by an international travel enthusiast and his Yoruba wife, who have built a growing online community by documenting authentic experiences across Nigeria and encouraging both locals and foreigners to explore the country’s rich cultural heritage.

Through their videos, the couple promotes domestic tourism, highlights local businesses and introduces audiences to everyday aspects of Nigerian life that often go unnoticed.

In a collaborative video with Authentic Traveling, Tom admitted he had never encountered sachet water before.

“A bag of water? I had NO IDEA this existed,” he wrote.

He explained that, unlike bottled water, many Nigerians buy sachet water because it is inexpensive and widely available.

“For just ₦50 (less than five cents), you can buy so-called Pure Water. It’s around four times cheaper than bottled water, and there’s even a technique to drinking it,” he said.

Tom humorously revealed that he needed guidance from his hosts before mastering the Nigerian way of opening and drinking the sachet.

“Let’s just say… I needed a little coaching from my friend @authentic_traveling,” he joked.

Reflecting on the experience, the travel creator said it was the simple, everyday discoveries that made exploring new countries so rewarding.

“It’s one of those small everyday things that make traveling so much fun. You think you’ve seen it all, and then a simple bag of water teaches you something new.”

He concluded by describing Nigeria as “one big adventure.”

The video has since drawn thousands of reactions online, with many Nigerians welcoming Tom’s curiosity while applauding Authentic Traveling for continuing to spotlight the country’s culture, traditions and tourism potential through engaging storytelling.
