On a night that celebrated African talents, Stan Nze and Osas Ighodaro emerged winners of Best Actor and Actress in a Drama, respectively, at this year’s edition Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).
The delectable Ighodaro, in a sexy, see-through dress, edged out the likes of Kehinde Bankole, Bisola Aiyeola and Nancy Isime amongst others to win the highly competitive category.
She also won the award for Best Dressed Female, as she shouted praised of God on both occasions that she went on stage to collect her awards.
She won the Beat Actress award for her role in Ramsey Nouah’s movie ‘Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story’.
Stan Nze, who also starred in ‘Rattlesnake’, won his category ahead of some of the industry’s hottest actors – Timini Egbuson, Gabriel Afolayan and Femi Jacobs.
The same movie also earned Ramsey Nouah, Best Director of the night, among several other individual awards for the film.
Rogers Ofime picked the awards for Best Indegenous Movie (Voiceless) and Best Television Drama (The Mystic River).
Funke Akindele won Best Actress in a comedy while popular skit maker and actor, Samuel Perry, aka Broda Shaggi, won the male version of the same category.
Historical Drama, Amina, by Izu Ojukwu and Okey Ogunjiofor clinched the award for Best Overall Movie while Bolanle Austen-Peters’ Collision Course won the Best Produced Film in West Africa.
While the three and half hour live show looked gorgeous on television, the live ceremony which held at Eko Hotel in Lagos was an excruciating exercise in crowd control.
Many guests, including a few nominees, stood at the back of the hall throughout the show, apparently as a result of having more people than available seats.
Even with additional seats brought in by the hotel’s facility managers, hundreds of guests were still left without seats, forcing some frustrated ones to leave in annoyance.
At a time when the doors were shut to keep late comers out, many guests who needed to use the bathroom were forced to remain in the hall.
