It’s been three months since Nollywood veteran and scholar, Dr. Chika Onu, launched his book, ‘The Unusual Story Of The Early Years Of Nollywood’ and TCN can confirm that the book is still in hot demand, in Nigeria and for global audiences through Amazon Books.
Dr. Onu was at the very beginning of the journey when the Nigerian film industry transitioned into the video-film era of the early 1990s.
He directed the sequel to the watershed film, Living in Bondage, in 1993 and went on to direct the popular Glamour Girls in 1994, among several others.
In 2015, Onu got his PhD in Film Studies from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
A writer, poet, producer, director, actor, and scholar, Dr. Onu had previously written ‘Naked Beauty’, said to be the first Nigerian screenplay published and sold as a book.
His latest book on Nollywood traces the events leading to the emergence of a new phenomenon in video-film production through the recollection of some of the key stakeholders who made that transition happen.
Here, TCN brings images from the launch of the book in February.
