Starting Thursday, a new exhibit opens to the public in Duncan featuring an artist who now calls Oklahoma home.
Steven Dixon is a lifelong artist who once called New York City his home.
He eventually found his way into helping people handle addiction, and when he visited Oklahoma for work, he says he saw a big problem with rural teens and addiction and decided to make the move.
From Jan. 11 until late February, people can visit the Chisholm Trail Art Council free of charge, check out his work, and bid on their favorite pieces, with all proceeds going to a local non-profit.
”I’ve been an artist for, gosh, my whole life. My family jokes that I was coloring and painting before I could even talk. I went to school and trained to as professional artist, I went to Penn State for fine arts. I’ve been working in this medium for close to 20 years now. I was really fascinated by horses and western and everything when I moved to Oklahoma from New York City.”
The exhibit opens between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
You can check out the exhibit Monday through Friday after that, their hours are between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., until the closing ceremony on Feb. 22.
During that time, a silent auction will be held for all of Dixon’s art pieces.
