Netflix Original: Afolayan Announces Screen Adaptation Of Sefi Atta’s ‘Swallow’, Two Others

Nigerian filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, has announced that his production outfit is currently working on three Netflix original feature films.

Afolayan, who made this known in a blog post on Monday, disclosed that the three new titles which are in different stages of production cut across genres such as historical drama, folklore fantasy and character drama.

The celebrated filmmaker said he has concluded principal photography for the first film, a screen adaptation of Sefi Atta’s 2010 novel, ‘Swallow’.

“There’s never been a greater time for us, where you have so many Nigerian stories being shown to the whole world,” Afolayan added.

‘Swallow’ tells the story of Tolani Ajao, a naïve secretary whom, after a series of career woes, considers a drug trafficking offer from her roommate, Rose Adamson.

Recall that TCN had reported how Afolayan, some months ago, teased fans with photos of a read-through session for the film which, according to him, will be unveiled in due course.

Known for his style of casting non-professional actors in lead roles,, Afolayan didn’t disappoint this time again as he picks afro-pop singer, Eniola Akinbo, popularly known as Niyola, for the lead role.

Other cast members include Chioma Akpotha, Deyemi Okanlawon, Ijeoma Grace Agu, Omotunde Adebowale, Eniola Badmus, Mercy Aigbe, Oreofe Lawal, Kelvin Ikeduba, Joke Muyiwa, BBNaija reality star Thin Tall Tony and Olusegun Akinremi.
