Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti, is on top of the voting chart of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees list for the fourth consecutive day.

Several Nigerian celebrities like Davido, Burna Boy, Mr Macaroni and Don Jazzy have helped canvassed votes for the Afrobeat pioneer with Nigerians voting en masse.

As of the time of filing this report on Tuesday, Fela is leading the chart with 132,729 votes while Tina Turner is following with 100,314 votes on the 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame fan voting official page.

They are both followed closely by Foo Fighters and Iron Maiden with 74,335 and 61,100 votes respectively.

Fela’s son, Seun, who leads his father’s former band, Egypt 80, took to his Instagram page to thank his father’s supporters and urged them to keep voting for ‘Abami eda’ as the late music icon called himself.

“On behalf of the Anikulapo-Kuti family, we want to say thanks for the support. One can vote every day so please visit the website to keep the numbers going up. I have to say though, we Africans all over the world have already put Fela in the greatest hall of fame of all time— our hearts. #liberationgeneration,” he wrote.

Seun’s elder brother and Fela’s eldest son, Femi, also wrote: “Vote for Fela Anikulapo Kuti for a well-deserved place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”

The top five inductees are selected by public vote which will run till April 30. Fans can vote for up to five nominees daily. The inductees will be announced in May.
