Grammy award-nominee and afrofusion singer, Burna Boy, has been enlisted for the recently announced Global Citizen’s upcoming ‘One World: Together At Home’ concert as headline performer.
The singer is expected to perform at the concert, which is aimed at supporting healthcare workers at the frontline of the global coronavirus outbreak, alongside an array of artists and celebrities.
Speaking on the essence of the concert at a press conference during the week, co-founder and CEO of Global Citizen, Hugh Evans, said: “I hope that we, as a shared humanity, emerge from this moment forever grateful for the work of doctors, nurses, teachers, grocery store workers, and all of those who are the backbone of our communities. Global health is at the very core of the Global Citizen mission. We must ensure that the world’s poorest and most marginalized people have access to resources to cope with and tackle this health crisis.”
The concert, which was curated in collaboration with American singer, Lady Gaga, has already raised USD 35 million which is supposed to help healthcare workers and various relief efforts amid the global pandemic.
Actor Idris Elba and his wife, Sabrina, who both recently passed quarantine after testing positive to the coronavirus will also make an appearance during the concert.
Other artistes and celebrities include: John Legend, Stevie Wonder, Lizzo, David Beckham, Kerry Washington, Billie Eilish, Alanis Morissette, Andrea Bocelli, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, Chris Martin, Eddie Vedder, Elton John, FINNEAS, J Balvin, Kacey Musgraves, Keith Urban, Lang Lang, Maluma, Paul McCartney, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Shah Rukh Khan.
The special will be broadcast live on Saturday, April 18, at 5 p.m while Multichoice Group (owners of DSTV) will run it on Sunday April 19, 2020.
The concert will also be a multi-hour digital broadcast streaming online on multiple global platforms, including Apple, Facebook, Instagram, TuneIn, Twitter, Yahoo, and YouTube, among others.
