The Arojah Students Playwriting Prize (TAPP) has announced its 2020 shortlist.
A statement released by the administrator of the prize, Paul Liam, said that five works made it into the shortlist out of the 58 entries received from various tertiary institutions.
Among the plays shortlisted are: Bayowa Ayomide’s ‘Recyclable Chairs’ (University of Toronto), Ojo Joshua Miracle’s ‘Justice: A Mirage’ (Obafemi Awolowo University) and Ojo Olumide Emmanuel’s ‘Headless Sacrifice’ (ABU Zaria).
Others include ‘A Tale Told By Idiots’ by Omowunmi Damilola Osuolale and ‘The Just Cause’ by Yusuf Abdulkadir (ABU Zaria).
This year’s competition is focused on Transparency, Governance, Anti-Corruption and Culture of Accountability.
According to the statement, three winners will emerge from the 5-man shortlist at a special award ceremony in Abuja in October.
The shortlisted student playwrights will be exposed to a play reading session on September 5, to enable engage with the literary community.
“And to further hone their playwriting skill, the top 30 playwrights from this competition will participate in an online Playwriting Masterclass (Playwriting and Creative Process) with Makinde Adeniran and UK based, Rob Wilson on Saturday September 19,” the statement added.
