The invitation card said dress code should be “ethnic” and expectedly, on Sunday evening, celebrities turned out with culture-driven fashion statements at the Imax Cinema in Lagos for the much-anticipated film by the award-winninig Nigerian filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan.
The premiere was the limited edition for celebs and special guests as the film is slated for a global premiere this Friday September 30 on Netflix and at the same time at the Nigerian cinemas.
From rare, vintage aso ofi to more stylish aso oke and adires, people trooped in with class, a sense of camaraderie and cultural renaissance to watch the film that stars Kunle Remi and Bimbo Ademoye, in telling the story of an adventurous young man, Saro, and his intriguing trajectory of multiple romances, metaphysical power and life and death encounters in the old Oyo kingdom.
Three things stand this film out as an enchanting work: The beautiful story inspired by Papa Yemi Elebuibon’s story from Ifa corpus of how not all souls immediately transit to the land beyond after death; Afolayan’s beautiful cinematography and the stellar cast.
And at the premiere on Sunday, all these were on full display, especially the gorgeously dressed cast in full glare on the red carpet and at the after-party that rocked till wee hours of Monday.
The roll call on Sunday included Chief Elebuibon, Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello), Sola Sobowale, Deyemi Okanlawon, Odunlade Adekola, Deba Mr. Macaroni, Ronke Oshodi-Oke, Aisha Lawal.
There was also Oba Ademola Elegushi and some of his chiefs. the Ikorodu Boiz, among others.
