Ace filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan’s 2022 flick, ‘Anikulapo’ has emerged the most watched movie on Netflix in Nigeria for the year in review.

The streaming giant named the Nigerian epic fantasy film in the first place, trumping major worldwide releases like ‘RRR’ and ‘Adam Project’.

Afolayan took to his Instagram page to celebrate the major feat by his film given that other films were released earlier in March while the Nigerian film was released much later in the year.

The Netflix original received rave reviews upon release and amassed 8,730,000 global views within a few weeks, making it the most watched non-English movie ever on the streaming platform.

Other Nollywood movies that made the list include, Funke Akindele’s ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’, ‘Dinner at My Place’, ‘Breaded Life’, ‘Glamour Girls’, ‘Chief Daddy 2’ and ‘The Griot’, among others.

Afolayan had in October confirmed that a spin-off series of the Netflix hit was in the works.
