With over 200 booths full of unique decor, clothing, and food, the Woodland fair has something for everyone to enjoy this weekend.
Executive Director of the Lexington Art League, Lori Houlihan says this event brings communities together.
“It’s really representing what a creative culture we have here,” Houlihan said. “We have so many craftsmen and people who appreciate handmade items and appreciate being together.”
A community is what Jess Sheldon, a photographer and tile artist, said she found through her five years of participating in the fair.
”It’s kind of scary to put yourself out there but having a community of people, other artists, that support you and rally around you,” she said. “Then the number of patrons that come is just phenomenal.”
Sheldon says that her experiences through the years at Woodland Fair has inspired many of her pieces she’s displaying today.
“People share really intimate stories about their life and you know, that’s what it’s all about, creating that story and sharing community and building bridges,” she said.
Many artists also showed their stories through their work like Scott Jones who dedicated his pieces to his mother.
Before she passed, she gave him the love for art and culture.
“She exposed me to mid-century pop culture and commercial art so since that time I’ve begun working to come out into the art fair scene,” said Jones
As a first timer at the Woodland Art Fair, Jones says that he has gained a new community within the Lexington art scene and hopes to share his story with more Kentuckians.
The fun continues as the Woodland Art Fair will be back Sunday 10 to 5.
