Nigerian music star and Grammy award-winner, Wizkid, has been presented an award for achieving the one billion streams feat in the United Kingdom.
Organisers of the BRIT Billion Award in an Instagram Post on Monday announced that the Nigerian artiste has earned the award.
The Afrobeats singer was given the award after his sold-out concert at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Saturday.
“It’s one billion UK streams for @wizkidayo, who was presented with his BRIT Billion Award while in London for his incredible @spursofficial stadium show,” the post reads.
This latest recognition celebrates Wizkid’s outstanding achievement as a recording artiste in surpassing the landmark of one billion career streams in the UK – as calculated by the Official Charts Company.
The talented singer was able to achieve the feat — courtesy of hits like ‘Essence,’ ‘Brown Skin Girl,’ and ‘Made in Lagos’ album.
His performance at the Tottenham Stadium on Saturday also makes him the first African artiste to headline a concert at “London’s largest stadium”.
After gaining global prominence following his collaboration with Drake on the hit single ‘One Dance’ in 2016, Wizkid has become one of the leading names in African music with several awards to his name.
