The Guinness World Records (GWR) has cautioned Nigerians and others aspiring to break records to adhere to its stipulated guidelines before embarking on their record-breaking endeavours.
GWR issued the warning in a message shared via its Twitter handle on Tuesday.
The organisation urged individuals to have their record titles confirmed by their team before undertaking any record-breaking feats.
“Polite reminder that you should probably have your world record title confirmed by our team before attempting it. Here’s how our process works https://t.co/BOjCO2oG0b”, the tweet read.
Following the announcement of Chef Hilda Baci’s record-breaking achievement on June 13, 2023, where she was officially recognised as the world’s longest cooking individual, having dedicated an impressive 93 hours and 11 minutes to her culinary feat, attempts by individuals to surpass the existing benchmark has continued to rise.
The feat has nudged fellow compatriots like Chef Dammy from Ekiti State and Chef Adeyeye Adeola from Ondo State aiming to surpass Baci’s record by setting ambitious targets of 120 and 150 hours, respectively.
In the same vein, a recent incident involving a Nigerian woman identified as Joyce Ijeoma, who attempted to break the world record for the longest continuous massage session but unfortunately collapsed after 50 hours, falling short of her intended goal of 72 hours may have come to the attention of the body.
In reaction to these, GWR dismissed them as futile attempts, emphasising that record titles must be officially confirmed before any attempts are made.
The organisation advised aspiring record-breakers to undergo the necessary application and verification process to ensure the legitimacy and recognition of their achievements.
