In commemoration of the UNESCO World Poetry Day held annually on March 21, Verbal Transformers is hosting an open-to-the-public digital poetry performance.

Scheduled to hold on March 21, on X, the event will convene young storytellers of all types, poets, writers, songwriters, content creators, and spoken word artistes across Africa.

They include Oreoluwa M (Nigeria), Nankunda Sarah (Uganda), Zikpi E (Ghana), Eunice Olalere (Nigeria), Cutie Philly (Ghana), Soy Gh (Ghana), Eqow Mclean (Ghana), Leon Imani (Kenya), and Panini (Nigeria).

Ex-lawmaker, author, travelogue writer, and the Secretary General of Pan African Writers Association (PAWA), Dr Wale Okediran, is the Special Guest at the event.

Similarly, in the spirit of “promoting poetry and giving poets their deserved flowers within the creative world”, Poets In Nigeria (PIN), in collaboration with 60 Secs Poetry, will host a special Poetry Reading event on April 1, 2026, with several distinguished poets arranged to perform.

They include Ahmed Maiwada, Kukugho Iruesiri Samson, Abdulkareem Baba-Aminu, Ismail Bala, Abubakar Ibrahim, AJ Dagga Tola, VicAdex (Adetimilehin Inioluwa Victor), Muazu Maiwada, Jide Badmus, and Majekodunmi Oseriemen Ebhohon.

Established on March 21, 1999, by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), World Poetry Day aims to support linguistic diversity and promote endangered languages through poetic expression.

World Poetry Day is an occasion to honour poets and revive oral traditions of poetry recitals. It is also an opportunity to promote reading, writing, and the teaching of poetry, to foster the convergence of poetry with other creative disciplines such as theatre, dance, music, and painting, and to raise awareness about poetry in the media.
