‘True Friend Of Nigeria, Kindred Spirit’, Ambode Congratulates Ghana’s President-Elect

… Recalls His Role During Lagos State Tourism Summit

Former Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has congratulated the President-Elect of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency, Mr. John Dramani Mahama over his election victory on Saturday.

In a congratulatory letter released on Tuesday, Ambode described the 65-year-old Mahama as a brother and a kindred spirit who is trued and trusted.

The former governor also thanked Mahama for accepting his invitation in April 2018 as the Special Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker at the first ever Lagos State Tourism Summit, saying Mahama’s seminal paper at the event is still a reference point up till today.

Mahama, who spent some of his formative years in Offa, Kwara State of Nigeria decisively won Ghana’s presidential poll on Saturday December 7 and will therefore return to power eight years after his first teem in office.

Ambode’s letter to the President-Elect reads:

“I am very delighted to formally extend my heartfelt congratulations to Your Excellency on your emphatic and well-deserved victory at the polls on Saturday, 7th December, 2024.

With the formal announcement of the good news, trailed by your glorious acceptance speech, it is clear to the whole of Africa and indeed the rest of the world that a man of history is back where he rightfully belongs – to serve his people.

Your victory is as historic as it is inspirational; drawing attention to the place of patience and perseverance in our endeavours.

As a tested and trusted politician and public servant who understands the terrain, I nurse no fear, like the rest of Africa, that you will, as usual, deliver on your clearly articulated plans for the good people of Ghana.

As a Pan-African leader with special link to Nigeria, your return to power at this point in time can only bring positive improvements to the lives of the people.

I must not fail to thank you once again, and specially too, for your visit to Lagos State during the Lagos@50 celebrations in 2017 and for accepting my invitation as the Special Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker at the Lagos Tourism Summit in 2018 while I had the privilege to serve the good people of Lagos State as Governor.

Till today, your seminal paper at that landmark event still serves as a reference point on how the tourism sector and service industries, when built upon solid social infrastructure, can serve as catalyst for development in many parts of Africa.

Not a few will remember how you used the occasion to draw attention to your familial link to Nigeria, especially when you lived and schooled in Offa.

As such you are not just a true friend of Nigeria but also a brother and kindred spirit whose successes and accomplishments are pleasing in our eyes.

My prayer, therefore, is for God Almighty to continue to grant you the wisdom, strength and courage to serve the Republic of Ghana diligently and to further uplift you as a true African hero.

May your reign be peaceful and prosperous, Your Excellency.”
