Nigerian music sensation, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known by her stage name Tems, has become the first Nigerian artiste in history to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Tems achieved the feat through her feature on American rapper, Future’s ‘Wait For U’ which also featured Canadian rapper, Drake.

‘Wait For U’ is the seventh track on Future’s new LP album, ‘I Never Liked You’. The track earns Future his second No. 1 hit, Drake his tenth and Tems her first, according to Billboard.

Recall that TCN reported how Tems had debuted on the Hot 100 last year October, with her feature on Essence remix. The hit song by Afrobeats star, Wizkid, also featured Justin Bieber, and peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard chart.

Wizkid however is the first Nigerian artiste to attain the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with his feauture on Drake’s ‘One Dance’.

The song, however, did not debut at number one but only reached the top of the charts a few weeks after its release.
