Rookie Of The Year: Controversial Singer, Portable, Throws Tantrums As Headies Disqualifies Him

Popular but controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola, famously known as Portable, has reacted to his disqualification from The Headies as organisers of the awards stripped him of his nominations for threatening to kill his co-nominees.

TCN had reported how Portable had threatened to kill or cause harm to the other nominees in the same categories of awards he was nominated for if he did not emerge the winner.

“We regret to announce that following numerous indicting statements made by Mr. Habib Okikiola popularly known as Portable and incessant negative attention that Mr. Okikiola has garnered from the Nigeria Police and the general public in recent times, the organisers of the Headies have resolved to disqualify Mr. Okikiola as a nominee at the forthcoming 15th Headies Award,” the statement partly reads.

The controversial singer was nominated in the ‘Rookie of the Year’ and ‘Best Street-Hop Artiste’ categories.

The Headies in a statement on Tuesday said Portable was disqualified from its 15th nominees’ list to further pass a strong message of not condoning reckless and uncouth statements.

It also cited a series of misdemeanours via Portable’s social media platforms, adding that the singer is the subject of a criminal investigation.

Reacting to the disqualification, Portable in an Instagram video said he does not regret his actions.

“I am a child of light. I have fame, I have money, I have cars, I have wives, I have children. I am rich. People know me everywhere. I don’t regret my actions,” he said.

This year’s Headies holds on September 4 in Atlanta, USA.
