As industry professionals across Africa and the Diaspora counts down to the 19th edition of the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), organisers have shared countless unforgettable moments with talented filmmakers in Ghana.
The 19th edition of the prestigious continental event is scheduled to hold on Sunday October 29, 2023, in Lagos.
However, the organisers chose Accra, Ghana, for a strategic visit penultimate Thursday to reconnect with strategic partners and ramp up publicity for the highly-anticipated event.
“We are filled with joy as we commemorate this incredible journey alongside our esteemed Ghanaian colleagues, who have been steadfast companions throughout the years,” said Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe, the Chairman of the Board of AFrican Film Academy.
He said the Accra event was a deeply heartfelt tribute to “our beloved founder”, the legendary Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, who sadly departed earlier in January this year.
The Accra event included an exclusive Press Parley and Tribute Night on October 5, 2023. “This evening was dedicated to reflection, celebration, and cherishing her (Peace Anyiam-Osigwe) memory.
“This remarkable evening, graced by a constellation of stars, served as a befitting homage to Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, a true African icon who devoted her life to advancing African cinema. We extend our sincere gratitude to luminaries such as Kofi Adjorlolo, Oscar Provescal, Akofa Edjaeni Asiedu, Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe, Dr. Jim Awindor, George Bosompim, Jackie Appiah, Kofi Zoko Nartey, Adjetey Sowah, Abeiku Sagoe, Lydia Forson, Leonard Buckman and many others
“Their presence and support at this event were a testament to their dedication to the art of cinema and the legacy of Peace Anyiam-Osigwe. We are truly honoured by their participation in this memorable occasion.”
Meanwhile, Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe and his brother George, were guests at the office of the Lagos State Commisdioner for Tourism, Arts & Culture, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka last week to firm up support and collaborations towards this year’s awards ceremony.
TCN recalls that Governor Babajide SanwoOlu had promised a three-year sponsorship deal for AMAA, which started with last year’s ceremony at Lekki.
The three-year sponsorship package, in the first instance, will culminate in the grand ceremony to mark the 20th edition of AMAA in October 2024.
