Filmmaker Obi Emelonye’s ‘Heart and Soul’ will premiere on US streaming platform, Netflix, on November 20.
The producer broke the news on his social media page over the weekend.
Emelonye added that the series, which has been compared to other classic medical dramas such as ‘ER’ and ‘Casualty and Scrubs’, has been described as the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ set in Lagos with a bit of spirituality.
“Heart & Soul comes to Netflix on the 20th of November 2020. This humble TV series project, starring young and upcoming talents from Lagos has earned a pride of place amongst the biggest films in the world.
“I am humbled by the favour beyond our labour and I am grateful for what this elevation will do for these fledgling careers. Make a date and see this show that has been described as Grey’s Anatomy shot in Lagos, with a little bit of spirituality,” he wrote on Instagram.
The series, shot at the Lagos State University Teaching hospital (LASUTH), follows the story of Sydney Balogun, a junior doctor, who has just returned from New York.
Balogun discovers that for a people whose beliefs are steeped in pervasive spiritualism, there is more to every sickness and indeed every cure that cannot be explained through medical science.
The film, which was launched on Africa Magic in June 2019, features actors like Anthony Monjaro, Adekola Amoo, Phoenix Ezendu, among others.
