Global streaming giant, Netflix, has officially announced the upcoming release of Editi Effiong’s latest project, ‘The Black Book.’
The crime thriller, which is scheduled to premiere on September 22, 2023, is set to captivate audiences worldwide with its explosive performances, intricate narrative, and dynamic cast.
Directed and produced by the talented Effiong through his Anakle Films, the movie delves into a world of corruption, revenge, and justice. It follows the story of a grieving father who embarks on a relentless pursuit of truth and retribution after a gang of corrupt policemen ruthlessly takes the life of his only son. As old scores resurface, the tension escalates, promising viewers a gripping and suspenseful experience.
‘The Black Book’ casts Richard Mofe-Damijo, Ade Laoye, Sam Dede, Alex Usifo Omiagbo, Olumide Oworu, Shaffy Bello, Ireti Doyle, Taiwo Ajayi Lycett, Ikechukwu Onunaku, Patric Doyle, Bimbo Manuel, Femi Branch, Denola Grey, Kelechi Udegbe, and Nobert Young.
‘The Black Book’ is one of the eagerly awaited shows among Netflix’s impressive lineup, which includes other Nigerian originals like ‘Anikulápó: Rise of the Spectre’ and ‘Ólòtūré’ (series).
This announcement follows Netflix’s Lights, Camera…Nigeria! event, a groundbreaking talent appreciation initiative that solidifies the platform’s commitment to showcasing the rich storytelling culture of Nigeria to a global audience.
The upcoming slate of Nigerian stories that span various genres and themes includes new local films and series from Mo Abudu, Charles Okpaleke, Kunle Afolayan, and Kemi Adetiba which are currently in different stages of production, and once completed, will make their debut on the streaming platform.
