A total of 70,875 air flight operations took place in Nigeria from January to December 2019 locally and internationally by 38 airlines. This was contained in an Executive Summary on the operations of the airlines released by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

Under review, a total number of 15,474 flights operated on international routes while 65,401 flights operated on domestic routes.

NCAA noted that among these flights, 4,880 flights were delayed and 82 flights cancelled on the international routes while 37,510 flights delayed and 356 cancelled by domestic airlines during the year.

The NCAA Executive Summary maintained that on the international routes, 24 air/ramp returns were recorded and 66 air/ramp returns happened on the local scene.

NCAA noted that within this period, it received 64 complaints bordering on over booking/denied booking, pilferage, discourtesy etc from international airlines while 103 of the similar cases were recorded by domestic airlines.

NCAA said it was able to resolve 46 out of 64 of such complaints from the international routes and 73 out of 103 from the domestic airlines.

‘’However, most of these cases were resolved after follow-up including additional backlog from the previous year,’’ according to NCAA.

From the international routes, 41,473 cases of delayed/missing baggage were recorded out of which, NCAA noted, 38,440 were found. It added that on the local scene, 495 of similar cases were recorded as 640 were foundppp0
