Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, professionally known as Mohbad, has passed away.
The singer’s management team stated that he took a trip to the hospital in the early hours of Tuesday, September 12, 2023, for treatment, after which an injection was administered.
Mohbad was said to have passed out shortly after the injection was administered and unfortunately did not wake up.
A statement posted on both his Instagram and X handles by his management team confirmed his demise, saying: ”It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of Promise Oladimeji Aloba PK/A Mohbad (Imole) today, the 12th of September, 2023.
“Mohbad was light until the very end, and as we mourn the loss of the brightness he carried, the family thanks you for your love and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.”
The 27-year-old singer first rose to prominence as part of Naira Marley’s “Marlian Records” label due to his tunes and unique style which quickly earned him a devoted following.
Notable among his chart-topping tracks are “Ponmo,” “Feel Good,” and the sensational “KPK (Ko Po Ke),” a collaboration with Rexxie which earned him three nominations at The Headies Awards in 2022, a testament to his undeniable talent.
