Met Gala 2026 ‘Fashion Is Art’ Dress Code Revealed

by Cyril Ehis February 25, 2026

The red carpet dress code for the much-awaited 2026 Met Gala has been unveiled. Vogue declared that this year’s Met Gala, set to take place on 4th May, will be themed “Fashion is Art,” commemorating the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring 2026 exhibition titled “Costume Art.”

The Curator of the Costume Institute, Andrew Bolton, explained that the exhibit’s theme examines the “centrality of the dressed body,” as a dress code, celebrities and their designers are expected to show how they use the body as an empty canvas. The subject of the designs allows for a variety of approaches, such as historic art movements to minimalist, white-focused ensembles.

Bolton told Vogue, “What connects every curatorial department and what connects every single gallery in the museum is fashion, or the dressed body. It’s the common thread throughout the whole museum, which is really what the initial idea for the exhibition was.”

The Met Gala exhibition will display garments from the Costume Institute, together with paintings, sculptures, and other artworks, showing about 5,000 years of art history.

According to Vogue, guests can understand this wearable art through different lenses, and added that the guest list for the Met will be confidential until the day of the event.

However, earlier, it was revealed that the co-chairs for the 2026 Met Gala are Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour.
