Lady Gaga Defaces the Mona Lisa, Stomps Through the Louvre in New ‘The Joker’ Tease

Lady Gaga is unleashing her rock ‘n’ roll side in a new song inspired by her upcoming movie, Joker: Folie À Deux.

On Wednesday, Sept. 25, the 38-year-old shared a teaser clip for “The Joker” — a track featured on Harlequin, her upcoming companion album to the Todd Phillips-directed film.

Filmed inside the Louvre Museum in Paris, the pop superstar sings, “There’s always a joker in the pack, there’s always a lonely clown,” as she begins exploring the famous art museum while sporting a short red wig and dressed in a patterned blue dress, polka dot tights and Converse sneakers.

As she continues to pass pieces of art, including the Winged Victory of Samothrace sculpture, Gaga croons, “The poor laughing fool falls on his back and everyone laughs when he’s down / There’s always a funny man in the game, but he’s only funny by mistake / And everyone laughs at him just the same. They don’t see his lonely heartbreak.”

The actress then comes across the museum’s iconic Mona Lisa painting and starts waving at the Leonardo Da Vinci piece, before drawing the Joker’s signature red smile on its protective glass case in lipstick.

The moment echoes a scene from the first teaser trailer for the movie that shows Gaga’s Harley Quinn drawing a red lipstick smile on a glass partition while visiting Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker in prison.

In the clip for “The Joker,” Gaga smiles and walks away from the painting dancing as she sings, “The Joker is me” repeatedly while rocking makeup reminiscent of her character.

The words “Time for a Folie À Deux” then flash up on the screen before a note about when the film is released in theaters appears, along with a new exhibition coming to the Louvre in October, Figures of the Fool. The clip ends with a soundbite of Phoenix, 49, laughing in character as the Joker.

“There’s always a Joker. #FiguresDuFou #Louvre #JokerMovie,” Gaga captioned the clip on Instagram.

Harlequin is set to be released on Sept 27, while Joker: Folie À Deux will hit theaters in October.

Starring Gaga and Phoenix who reprises his role as the disturbed Arthur Fleck from Joker, the movie sees Harley Quinn meeting the Joker for the first time before they team up to cause chaos with their antics.

Back in May, Gaga teased her role in the film, telling Access Hollywood, “My version of Harley is mine, and it’s very authentic to this movie and these characters.”

“I don’t want to give anything from the movie away,” she added. “I think it’s really something you have to experience in the theater.”

However, the Oscar winner did say, “This film has music, it has dance, it has amazing acting in it.”

“I loved working with Joaquin, I loved working with Todd,” Gaga continued. “I’ve never done anything like I’ve done in this movie before, so it’s all going to be completely brand new and really fun.”

Joker: Folie à Deux is in theaters Oct. 4.
