Veteran rapper, Tobechukwu Ejiofor, aka Illbliss, has bemoaned the loss of music stars Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy who initially started their careers as rappers to afrobeats.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Now 95.3 FM, Illbliss recalled that rap music was booming in Nigeria before rappers like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido and others switched to singing.

He said they were able to achieve global stardom after switching to singing.

He admitted that hip-hop music is not lucrative in Nigeria, noting that only a few rappers like himself have achieved commercial success.

Illbliss said, “We (Hip-Hop community) lost a lot of our soldiers; we lost Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido. Three of them were rappers. I guess they found the afrobeats vibe and it made them global stars.

“Hip-hop is a tough sell in Nigeria. Not everybody has been as fortunate as myself or Vector, M.I., Reminisce, Olamide, and Phyno. It’s not a long list.
