The 14th edition of the highly-anticipated Headies Awards (formerly Hip Hop Word Awards) held on Sunday night as a hybrid event (virtual and physical) for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The chief organiser of the award ceremony, Ayo Animasaun, said it was difficult yet interesting producing the show for virtual audiences.
The nominees for the awards were announced in December 2020, with Fireboy DML leading with nine nominations, while Burnaboy, Davido, Wizkid and Wurld followed with six nominations each.
This year’s edition however witnessed fast-rising singers like Fireboy DML, Bad Boy Timz and Omah Lay receive their first plaque at the event that was beamed live in part on Hiptv.
The ceremony was hosted by comedian Bovi and Nancy Isime.
