West African country, Ghana has strongly discouraged all inbound flights until further notice in a bid to combat the spread of the deadly COVID 19 pandemic.
In a travel advisory issued by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the country’s Minister of Information and obtained by The Culture Newspaper, only Ghanaian citizens and those with Ghana Residence permits will be allowed into the country’s jurisdiction henceforth.
“All travel to Ghana is strongly discouraged until further notice. Any traveler except for Ghanaian citizens and persons with Ghana residence permit who within the last 14 days have travelled to a country that has recorded at least a 200 cases of COVID 19 will not be admitted into Ghanaian jurisdiction. Airlines are instructed not to allow such persons to embark, border posts are instructed not to allow such persons into the jurisdiction” the advisory stated.
The advisory further stated that there will be a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine for persons who are otherwise allowed to enter the Ghanaian jurisdiction.
“There will be a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine for persons who are otherwise allowed to enter the Ghanaian jurisdiction. Guidelines for self-quarantine will be available at various Ghanaian’s port of entry. Enforcement protocols are being deployed in collaboration with state security and health authorities. Persons determined to be unable to satisfactorily self-quarantine will be quarantined by the state” the advisory further stated.
The advisory added that any traveler that exhibited the symptoms of coronavirus will be quarantined.
“Any admissible traveler who exhibits symptoms of COVID 19 will be quarantined and tested upon reaching Ghana” it stated.
The advisory will come into full effect from 1 pm on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.
