The 2023 Oscars Awards ceremony turned out to be all about American absurdist comedy-drama film, ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ as the 2022 film received movie’s biggest honour (Best Picture), in addition to six others at the 95th edition of the Academy awards on Sunday night.
The film, which follows the story of an aging Chinese immigrant swept up in an insane adventure, in which she alone can save the world by exploring other universes connecting with the lives she could have led, earned seven awards including original screenplay and directing honours for its creators Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinart as well as best film editing for Paul Rogers.
It also won three acting honours including best actress, best supporting actor and best supporting actress for Michelle Yeoh, Paul Rogers, Key Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis, respectively. Ms. Yeoh became the first Asian to be recognised as best actress.
‘The Whale’ won Brendan Fraser the best actor award after he made a comeback as as a morbidly obese recluse in the American psychological drama film.
Netflix’s adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque’s novel, ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’s’, won best international feature film, cinematography, original score and production design.
On the homefront, Nigerian Grammy award-winning songstress, Tems, lost the best original song category to ‘Naatu Naatu’ from Indian film ‘RRR’.
Tems was nominated for her contribution as a songwriter on ‘Lift Me Up’, a song on Marvel’s ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’.
Recall that TCN reported how the Nigerian international music sensation made history earlier this year by becoming the first Nigerian artiste to earn an Oscar nomination.
