The Senate Majority Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, has redeemed his commitment to the first Ekiti International Theatre Festival.
Bamidele, who is the Grand Patron of the day for the Ekiti International Theatre Festival, has emerged as one of the big individual supporters of Nigerian theatre with his massive boost and influence for the Ekiti International Theatre Festival.
In a statement made available to TCN, the organisers said the five – day festival would commence on August 22 2025 and will feature plays from all Local Governmebt areas in Ekiti, masterclass for youths, and the presentation of three major theatrical productions including Prof Ahmed Yerimas Sarduana, and Prof Rasaki Ojo Bakare’s Ladi Kwali and Kashimawo.
The Duke of Shomolu Foundation, are are the main organisers in conjunction with the Ekiti State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, also disclosed that His Excellency, Governor Abiodun Oyebanji, as the Chief Host.
The statement said the foundation had also secured approval from Unity Bank as major sponsors for the event.
Further disclosure from the foundation revealed the involvement of the Ekiti State Commissioner for Arts Culture and Creative Economy, Prof Rasaki Ojo Bakare in the Festival Director role.
Recall that the festival has been designed to entrench Ekiti state’s pivotal role as the centre for Arts and Culture in Nigeria, create opportunities for the youths and draw attention to the unique economic opportunities in Ekiti especially in its tourism, hospitality and service sectors.
