An eclipse art show was held on Friday, April 5, 2024 at the Wintergreen Arts Center as a part of the First Friday Art Walk.
All the art featured was made by local artists, who were asked to contribute art inspired by the eclipse, the sun, the moon, or the stars. Over 10 artists had their work shown. Some submitting one or two pieces while other submitted collections of work inspired by the eclipse.
“Van Gogh is one of my favorite artists, so when we were given the eclipse theme I thought it would be kind of neat to do an eclipse in a Van Gogh style,” says Amy Schwartz, a local artist who had two pieces in the show. “It’s great to see how many artists actually show up and participate in all of these events.”
In addition to the exhibition, Wintergreen held a Friends and Family Art Night where people worked on creating their own sun art in a unique, non-traditional method.
“We’ve offered up what will be fluid art,” explains Gretchen Violette, the events coordinator for Wintergreen. “Everybody will be mixing their own paint and getting it to the correct consistency, and then we’ll use some household products actually to complete the project, to drag the paint where it will look like the suns rays and have a golden tint, and we will have some chemical reactions to make the cells you see in the painting.”
This art event was one of many happening throughout the County over the weekend as many people come to the area to see today’s total solar eclipse.
