In spite of negative critiques, Tyler Perry’s latest World War II (WW2) film ‘The Six Triple Eight’, has gained global streaming success.
It stands as the second most streamed film on Netflix in Christmas week, topped only by the Die-Hard-like thriller, ‘Carry-On’ starring British actor, Taron Egerton.
Post its release, the Perry-directed film received mixed reviews from the media, with movie critic sites such as Rotten Tomatoes and Popcornmeter ranking it 50 and 73 percent respectively.
Regardless, ‘The Six Triple Eight’ has 14.3 million views since its debut on Netflix, outperforming numerous Christmas movies including ‘Dr Seuss’ The Grinch’ and ‘Hot Frost’. Judging by the viewership, Perry has achieved his main objective for making it, which is, to give more exposure to the events in the story and the protagonists whose lives it was based on.
Based on true events, ‘The Six Triple Eight’ tells the story of an all black, all female US military unit, the 6888 Central Postal Directory Battalion, who battled racism, sexism and the challenges of wartime during their mission to clear mail backlogs in Europe.
