Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright’s latest project, The Return of Omotara Johnson (TROJ), has grossed ₦29.2 million at the box office, making it the highest-grossing film in West Africa.
The milestone was announced by the film’s distributor, Nile Entertainment, in an Instagram post on Monday, thanking fans and supporters for their role in the movie’s success.
“Every ticket, cheer, review and word of mouth has brought us here. Thank you, Nigeria and Ghana. ₦29.2 million and still counting,” the distributor wrote.
Bukky Wright also celebrated the achievement on her Instagram page, writing: “Thank you, Nigeria. Thank you, Ghana. Thank you, Africa.”
The film premiered on July 10, 2026, at the Monarch Event Centre, Lekki. Produced by Bukky Wright and directed by Adeoluwa Owu, TROJ is a sequel to the 2008 Yoruba classic Omotara Johnson.
The sequel follows Omotara, who has abandoned her criminal lifestyle to focus on motherhood, but is forced to confront her past when her son is accused of murder and old enemies return.
The film stars Bukky Wright, Ojay Wright, Janet Adebayo, Tolulope Asanu, Shaffy Bello and Timini Egbuson, among others.
Ahead of the release, Bukky Wright described TROJ as her biggest project yet, revealing that post-production was completed in the United Kingdom. She also made the original Omotara Johnson available on her YouTube channel to help audiences reconnect with the story before the sequel’s release.
