Congolese band, Bantou Mentale, has released its second EP of 2020 titled ‘Congo Animal’.
The epic, 7-song burst of Afro-futurist sonics follows the release of their self-titled debut album which was released in October 2019.
According to a press release made available to TCN, the digital EP was released for streaming and downloads on June 26 on all major digital platforms.
The band sees the coronavirus outbreak as a reminder that Africa never forgot the art of living for today, of hanging out, making do, surviving on less, depending on neighbours and being content with time shared with friends.
“True, the virus won’t allow you to be a party animal, a drunk and grimy late night city-skank animal. It forbids you to get on stage and crank it up like a rock’n’roll animal. But you can still be a beat animal, a techno animal, a Congo Animal, in that other sphere, the one we all live part of our lives in now,” the statement added.
A fusion of knife-edged afro rock and hot-wired global beats, the EP is produced by Liam Farell (a.k.a Doctor L), Tony Allen, Mbongwana Star, and Les Amazones d’Afrique.
