Art Collector Resigns From Boards After Claims of Inciting Violence at Palestine Protest

New York art collector Scott Lorinsky has stepped down from the boards of two arts organizations, the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College (CCS Bard) and Visual AIDS, as of Tuesday, February 6. The news of the resignations comes after social media accounts shared allegations that Lorinsky instructed drivers to ram their vehicles into pro-Palestinian protesters at a Manhattan demonstration on January 27.

“In light of the recent allegations, Scott Lorinsky has stepped down from the board of CCS Bard. CCS Bard thanks Scott for his support over the years,” a spokesperson for the organization said in a statement to Hyperallergic. A Visual AIDS representative also confirmed Lorisnky’s resignation in an email. Lorinsky has not yet responded to Hyperallergic’s request for comment.

Lorinsky, a managing director at the assets management firm Napier Park Global Capital, joined the board of CCS Bard, a graduate program of Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, in 2018. He had been a board member of Visual AIDS, the art and advocacy organization headquartered in Manhattan, since last July.

On February 2, an anonymous activism account called Decentralize Culture published a 24-hour Instagram story photo of a man who was allegedly onsite during the pro-Palestine demonstration in Downtown Manhattan on Saturday, January 27. The account’s story alleged that the man, whom it identified as Lorinsky, “told multiple vehicles to ram through the crowd of protestors.” Hyperallergic was unable to independently confirm the claims.

Though the story is no longer visible, several users took screenshots and reposted them online, calling upon CCS Bard and Visual AIDS to address the allegations.
