Miss Virginia Makes History As First Mum To Win Miss USA

Justus Kelley, representing Virginia, has made history after being crowned Miss USA 2026, becoming the first married mother to win the national title. Kelley, 31, claimed the crown on Thursday, August 27, during the 75th edition of the Miss USA pageant, held at the Adrienne Arsht Centre for the Performing Arts in Miami.

The victory also makes Kelley the first woman over 30 to win the competition, marking a significant moment for a pageant that underwent major eligibility changes in 2023.

The changes removed the previous age limit and opened the competition to mothers and married women, paving the way for Kelley to compete for the national crown. The outgoing Miss USA, Audrey Eckert, 24, crowned her successor at the end of her reign.

This year’s competition, themed “75 Years of Icons,” featured 50 contestants from across the United States competing for the coveted title. Kelley’s victory has drawn attention beyond the pageant world, with her story challenging traditional expectations about age, marriage and motherhood in beauty competitions.

At 31, the Virginia native has demonstrated that reaching milestones later than conventional timelines does not have to limit a woman’s ambitions.

Her historic win comes as pageants continue to evolve, with changing eligibility rules creating room for women at different stages of life to participate and compete at the highest level. For Kelley, the Miss USA crown represents more than a personal achievement. It places her in the history books as the first mother, first married woman and first woman over 30 to hold the Miss USA title.

Her victory has also become a celebration of a changing definition of what it means to be a beauty queen, proving that motherhood, marriage and age need not stand in the way of pursuing the crown.
