AMIAF 4th Edition Holds In Lagos

The 4th edition of the ArtMiabo International Art Festival, AMIAF, with the theme, “Artconomy: Redefining the Global Art Experience”, has been scheduled to hold from April 29 to May 1, 2025, in Lagos.

This was disclosed recently by Miabo Enyadike, AMIAF founder and Chief Executive Officer, during a press briefing in Lagos. The 2025 edition of the festival, which aims to highlight the role of art in economic growth and sustainability, is expected to be a gathering of artists, curators, collectors and industry stakeholders.

According to Enyadike, this year’s AMIAF will feature a combination of new and returning artists from countries such as South Africa, Ghana, Chad and Uganda. “Artists are entrepreneurs. The creative economy is expanding rapidly, and we must redefine how we engage with it to ensure artists are not left behind.”

Further underscoring the significance of art in modern economy, Enyadike said “Art is a crucial asset in today’s economy. By integrating digital platforms, sustainable art practices, and innovative business models, we are ensuring that artists gain the financial independence they deserve while contributing to global economic growth.”

Among this year’s participants are Dr. Festus Adeyemi, Dr. Bolaji Ogunwo, Art Therapy Doctor, etc. Also expected at the festival is art therapy session led by South African artist, Dr. Suza.

Enyadike said AMIAF challenges the notion that art only sells during a particular periods: “We want to show that art sells all year round. If we keep limiting art sales to certain months, we are restricting the market. Galleries should be open and active from January to December.”

Speaking on how AMIAF funds its operations, Enyadike said they don’t charge artists for exhibiting their work; rather, they take a commission of 30 per cent from sales. “This payment helps cover costs like venue rental. It’s a business, and we want artists to remember that,” she said, adding that some artists prefer to pay a fixed fee instead of giving away 30 per cent of what they earned.

The AMIAF festival is sponsored by MultiChoice and EbonyLife. Yusuf Durodola has been the curator of AMIAF.
