The Oscar Awards cerwminy which is considered the biggest night in Hollywood has officially wrapped with a handful of historic firsts.

The best picture went to “CODA,” a film about a singer balancing her ambitions and her family that became a milestone for Deaf representation in the entertainment industry. Jessica Chastain won her first Oscar for best actress in a leading role for her performance in “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.” Will Smith took home his first Oscar for best actor in a leading role in “King Richard.”

Ariana DeBose won the best actress in a supporting role for her performance in “West Side Story” and Jane Campion received the award for best director for “The Power of the Dog.”

Also in what at first looked like a twist in the scripted awards show, Chris Rock and Will Smith had an altercation during the 2022 Oscar telecast.

Rock appeared on stage to present the Oscar for documentary feature and made a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith being in “G.I. Jane” because of her shaved head. Smith then took to the stage to slap Rock. Although it appeared to be a joke at first, Smith returned to his seat and yelled at Rock, “Keep my wife’s name out of your [expletive] mouth!”

He later apologised on stage after he picked up the first Oscar of his career for playing the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams in ‘King Richard’.

“I want to apologise to the Academy. I want to apologise to my all my fellow nominees,” he said during a tearful acceptance speech for best actor. “Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams. But love will make you do crazy things.”
