Restrictions: Lagos Tourism urges stakeholders to cooperate with government

The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture has called on all owners and operators of hotels and tourism-related establishments to comply with its directive banning gatherings of more than 20 persons at a time.

Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Uzamat AkinbiIe-Yussuf, while making the call over the weekend, stated that the restrictions were all part of concerted efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

According to her, some hotels have been sealed off for ignoring the instruction and the state will continue to clamp down on erring facilities.

While emphasising that the safety of Lagos residents motivated government’s directive, Akinbile-Yussuf urged stakeholders in the hospitality industry to cooperate with the government and support the initiatives introduced to curb the spread of the virus.

The commissioner implored hotels, event centres, restaurants and bars, lounges, spas, amusement parks and entertainment houses to comply with the directive.

Lagos State has so far the largest number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus infections out of the more than 100 recorded in Nigeria as at Sunday night.
This development has necessitated the total lock-down of the state for two weeks beginning from 11pm today, along with Ogun state and Abuja as contained in a state-wide broadcast by President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday evening.
