17-year-old ‘Hawker’ Becomes Internet Sensation, Garners Over 100k Followers on Instagram In 24hrs

A 17-year-old Nigerian hawker has warmed herself into the hearts of social media users with her angelic voice after hopping on a beat and syncing with it unarguably well.

In a video she shared via her Instagram handle, @callmesalle, the young girl was asked to hop on a beat by a narrator in the video.

The girl, reportedly based in Owerri, Imo State, who appeared in the short clip holding an empty tray, was asked by those capturing her on camera if her parents knew she could sing, but she said they were not aware.

As the beat begun playing, she wasted no time to show people the stuff she was made of which got one of her interviewers exclaiming.

On her Instagram page, she captioned the video: “Please support the poor girl.”

The video, which has garnered over 200k views since it went up on Instagram, has caught the attention of many celebrities like Tunde Ednut, Johnny Drille, Gyakie, Emmaohmagod, Samklef and others.

Social media users were also quick to recognise the teenager’s rare talent with over six thousand comments trailing her post in commendation of her vocal dexterity.

Here are some of the comments:

@snipes7_7: “You’re not poor my dear. You’re a super STAR.”

@shegsofficial: “No worry ur story has changed from today God bless you.”

@soniahairwayzz: “May God lead you through the right path good luck.”

@jkbankz: “@donjazzy come take your second Ayastar.”

@ifeyco_records_official: “Much love sister.”

@ceolumineeofficial: “Waooooooo singing with soooo much ease…. I must change your clothes”

@Johnnydrille: “She’s a star! So confident in her voice”

@emmaohmagod: “Choi…effortlessly”.

However, while several thousands applaud the apparent discovery of a raw talent with potential star power, a few others argued that the viral video was staged by her handlers with the aim of launching her into mainstream music deals through a carefully orchestrated marketing stunt that employs poor, street girl narrative to warm her way into the hearts of the people.
