The 2020 edition of Ake Arts and Book Festival has been moved online in response to the social distancing protocols the COVID-19 pandemic has caused.
This year’s festival themed ‘Black Magic’ was earlier scheduled to hold in Lagos from October 22 to 25.
In a statement released on Twitter, organisers said the festival will be freely accessible online to all.
“In response to the COVID-19 pandemic which is changing the way we engage, we have decided not to cancel #AkeFestival2020 but to have a magical online festival instead.
“It its important than ever that we continue our tradition of bringing African creatives together for lively, stimulating conversations, while adapting to the current realities,” the statement read.
The eighth edition of #AkeFestival, an annual gathering of writers in Africa, will focus on political memoirs and children’s writing.
According to the statement, submissions for #AkeReview will open in May.
