Nigerian-born British singer Sade Adu has been nominated for the 2026 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, marking her second appearance on the prestigious ballot.

The 67-year-old Grammy Award winner, celebrated for her distinctive contralto voice and timeless hits such as “Smooth Operator” and “The Sweetest Taboo,” is among 17 artistes shortlisted for induction this year.

According to organisers, 10 of the 17 nominees are appearing on the ballot for the first time, reflecting a diverse range of genres and musical eras.

To be eligible, artistes must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years ago. The 2026 inductees will be selected by a voting body comprising more than 1,200 artistes, historians and music industry professionals. Said the organiser

The final list of inductees is expected to be announced in April, with the induction ceremony scheduled for later in the year.

Sade was previously nominated in 2024. In 1986, she became the first Nigerian-born artiste to win a Grammy Award, a milestone that cemented her place in global music history.
